Electrolux vacuum cleaners were first made available in North America in 1924. Since the 1920s, the Electrolux name has conveyed high quality and superior performance. Though the appearance has evolved throughout the years, this quality has remained the same. The earliest Electrolux machine introduced was the Model V which came out in 1924. The Model V, like several others after it, used a sled design instead of wheels. In 1954, they released the Model E which was the first canister offering wheels. This design made cleaning the average American's home easier.

The modern Electrolux canister vacuum offers an electrically driven power nozzle. This feature was first introduced in 1957 with the model S which used a pigtail cord at each end of the hose to bring electricity from the body of the machine to the beater bar. The more modern design was first introduced in the late 1960s with the model 1205. The shape of this canister continued with the release of the Golden Jubilee, Olympia One, Silverado and many other metal canister vacuums manufactured throughout the 1970s, 80s and early 90s.

Electrolux first introduced a plastic canister design with the Hi-Tech 2100 which also included an electrostatic micron after filter in the motor exhaust. This feature was very successful in alleviating allergy and asthma symptoms because it kept the dirt and dust from being released back into the air while cleaning. Throughout the 1990s, Electrolux continued to alter the design of their canister with the Epic 6500, Renaissance, and Guardian.

While Electrolux is known for their superior quality of canister vacuums, they also introduced their first upright vacuum cleaner in the late 1970s with the model UR. While canister vacuums are great for wall-to-wall carpeting and hard floors, upright vacuums offer a level of convenience that can not be matched by a tank. Modern Electrolux upright vacuums include the Discovery series, Epic 3500 and other similar models. The Electrolux modern line of vacuum cleaners includes the Oxygen, UltraSilencer series as well as many other models including several upright vacuum cleaners.
